Designed for intermediate and advanced level piano students, this program provides a rigorous curriculum with opportunities for nationally-recognized evaluation as well as other special events. Piano students who plan to major or minor in music will be well prepared for their college studies as a result of this program.
april master class
Seven of our Piano Artistry students participated on April 28th in a Master Class with Dr. Jeanine Skinner of Wake Forest, NC held at Charlotte Academy of Music.
Dr. Jeanine Skinner earned an AA in Music (Anderson College), BM in Piano Performance (Furman University), MM in Piano Performance (Florida State University), DMA in Piano Pedagogy and Performance (University of South Carolina). She has served on the faculties of Southern Wesleyan University, Presbyterian College, Lander University, the State University of West Georgia, Berry College and Judson College. Teacher, church musician, professional accompanist, adjudicator and clinician, Skinner was presented the 2005 Achievement Award from Anderson College. In addition to teaching piano, Dr. Skinner is also Director and Owner of Music Academy South in Wake Forest, NC. She also serves as organist and accompanist for Wake Forest Baptist Church.

charlotte piano teacher forum audition results
We congratulate all of our Piano Artistry students who participated in the 2012 Charlotte Piano Teacher Forum Auditions on March 10th. They each earned the highest rating of Superior! The participants were Luna Jareo, Andrew Murphy and Melissa Olarte.
ncmta state finalists
Congratulations to Piano Artistry students Melissa Olarte, Meghan Speed and Hannah Williams on earning Superior ratings at the NCMTA District Contest on March 3rd. These talented students were selected as District Winners, and moved onto the State Contest. There Meghan Speed was named a State Winner. Meghan and Academy student Mikaela Anderson will perform at the State Convention held at UNC Chapel Hill in November. Here is a Video of our District and State Winners!
february master class
On Saturday, February 4th our Piano Artistry students had the privilege of working with Dr. Paul Nitsch from Queens University in a master class setting at Charlotte Academy of Music.
Dr. Paul Nitsch is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md, and the Cleveland Institute of Music at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He earned awards for outstanding student in his field, and as director of chamber music organizations in Virginia and Michigan. He has performed most recently in the eastern United States and in Portugal, Austria and Italy. He was awarded two Fulbright Foreign Study grants for study in Vienna, Austria, at the Vienna Academy of Music and Performing Arts (Hochschulr für Musik and Darstellende Kunst), and has studied with highly recognized teachers and musicians, including Leon Fleisher, Walter Hautzig, Anne Epperson and George Crumb. Dr. Nitsch also serves Queens as Artistic Director for the Friends of Music, in charge of managing the annual concert series and other special events.

november workshop
Our first Piano Artistry Workshop of the 2011-2012 school year was held on November 12th and the guest speaker was Registered Piano Technician, Ed Sutton. Understand the instrument we play is a vital part of becoming a well-rounded musician. Mr. Sutton discussed how sound is created in the piano, the parts of the piano and touched on the history of the instrument as well. It was a very informative afternoon!
Ed Sutton is the piano technician for Charlotte Academy of Music. He is also the Editor of The Piano Technicians Journal and instructor at regional and national RPT conventions.

Our Artistry students kicked off their very full year of events with the Olga Kern Concert held in Halton Theatre at CPCC on October 7th.
Ms. Kern’s career began one decade ago with her award-winning gold medal performance at the 11th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2001. Since then, her vivid stage presence, passionately confident musicianship and extraordinary technique have been captivating fans and critics alike.
