Angela Renée Simpson is a passionate and motivated voice teacher with over a decade of experience working with students of all skill levels. Her goal is to inspire students to reach their full potential by connecting with them through dynamic and creative teaching methods. Angela believes in the power of clear and effective communication to foster a positive learning environment, and her enthusiasm for music and teaching is infectious, encouraging students to stay motivated and engaged. Additionally, her proficiency in Italian, German, French, and Latin diction enhances her ability to teach a diverse vocal repertoire, and she emphasizes proper breath support as a crucial component for healthy and powerful singing.
A native New Yorker, Angela studied for her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance degree at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, CUNY. Since 2012, Angela has had the privilege of teaching private lessons, covering all music levels. Her instruction focuses on proper breathing techniques, posture, diction, vocal exercises, and scales to enhance the quality of students’ singing voices. She explores a wide range of musical styles, including Classical music (Opera/Art Songs), Musical Theater, Jazz, Pop, R&B, and Rock. She also prepares students for auditions and school musical roles, with notable success in helping 4 of her students reach the semi-finals and finals of the High School Musical Theater Awards, the Blumeys.
Angela has over 30 years of performance experience as a professional opera singer. She has had the honor of performing in major opera houses across the United States and Europe, such as the Metropolitan Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, San Francisco Opera, Washington National Opera, La Scala, and Opéra Bastille. Angela has worked with world-renowned conductors like James Levine, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Andrew Litton, John DeMain, and Wayne Marshall. Her experience also includes facilitating vocal masterclasses at prestigious colleges, including Howard University, University of California-Irvine, and Jackson State University.
