Voice Lessons

Ask anyone who their favorite singer is, and likely they will give a passionate answer. There’s something about singing that’s very personal. Few things stir as much emotion in us as an amazing vocalist accompanied by an inspiring, beautiful arrangement.  In voice lessons, our highly experienced voice teachers help students prepare for musical theatre auditions, college acceptance, church choir, or simply to develop their voice for their own personal enjoyment. Some students even prepare for TV show auditions for America’s Got Talent, American Idol, The Voice, and other competitions. No matter where or what you wish to sing, our vocal coaches will encourage you every step of the way.

The Voice

The voice is presumed to be the original musical instrument, and there is no human culture, no matter how remote or isolated, that does not sing. When we sing, large parts of our brain “light up” with activity. When we speak, the hemisphere of the brain dealing with language lights up, as we might expect. When we sing, however, both sides of the brain spark into life! The physical exertion involved in singing – filling of our lungs, the firm control of our vocal chords, the movements of our mouth and body – is among the reasons why it can boost our mood. Singing is an aerobic exercise which sees the release of endorphins, the brain’s ‘feel-good’ chemical.

Learn to sing!

Imagine singing with the confidence of Aretha Franklin, belting it out like Idina Menzel, or wowing an audience like Pavarotti. Amazing vocalists share the same three qualities: Technique, Determination, and Practice.  Guided by an experienced teacher you will develop your technique. Couple your determination with regular practice and you’ll be on your way!

Our teachers have degrees in voice and professional performing experience. In lessons, students spend time each week doing physical exercises to improve their vocal range, ear training, breath control, vibrato, tone production, enunciation and more. Voice lessons are available in weekly 30, 45 or 60 minute sessions. Students can learn to sing many genres of music in their lessons from Musical Theatre to Opera, Pop to Sacred, and everything in between!

CAM offers two ways to enjoy vocal lessons, in person at Charlotte Academy of Music, or online via virtual lessons. All CAM students, those who have lessons in person at the Academy and those who connect with their teacher without having to leave the comfort of their homes, have access to all CAM events…recitals, special events, incentive programs and more!
