laura k, piano

Teacher: Matthew Rogers

Watch this Video of Laura playing!

Mr. Rogers writes, “Laura has  improved tremendously in the past 4 months since starting lessons at Charlotte  Academy of Music. Since I began teaching her, she has learned all her  major and most minor scales. She has also begun to tackle more difficult  pieces from composers like Claude Debussy and Muzio Clementi. Outside our  lessons, she has improved her ability through other playing opportunities, such  as at her church.

Every week  Laura continues to impress me with her improvement and ability. I am  excited to see her evolution as a musician over the next three years and hope  that many will receive the opportunity to hear her talent.”

luke t, glee club

Teacher: Alexandra Sims

Watch this Video of Luke singing and playing!

Ms. Sims writes,  “Luke is always 100% committed to Glee in  and out of rehearsals. Luke is a great musician and always rises to the  occasion when it is necessary for him to be the only person on his voice part.  He is also a very caring person and makes a point to ask fellow Glee  members (as well as whichever director is teaching) how they are doing.  Luke always goes the extra mile as a Glee group member, singer, musician,  and friend.”

Luke is a junior at Butler High  School who is very busy blending academics with the Fine Arts. With four AP and  two honors classes this year, he spends a lot of time with the math and  science concentration as well as practicing for performances. He has played  guitar since fifth grade, upright bass since sixth grade, and started acting in  sixth grade as well as singing at about six months to pass the time on  long Chicago commutes. It is rewarding when hard work pays off like  being nominated to Governor’s School, the High School Orchestra achieving a  Superior rating recently and the High School NCTC play  competition making it to the state level more than once. Luke also enjoys  youth group activities at church, recreation league soccer and basketball, Mu Alpha  Theta Math Honor Society, Honor Society, Math Competition Team, theatre  productions, Mecklenburg County Youth Health Council, and of course, the  Charlotte Academy of Music Glee Club! He feels honored to be recognized as  Student of the Month within such a competitive and talented group, and wishes to  thank Ms. Sims and Mr. and Mrs. Ziliani for all their support and leadership!

delaney q, piano

Teacher: Rita Mabes

Watch this Video of Delaney playing!

Ms. Mabes writes,  “Delaney has been a true joy to teach these past  four years. She always comes to her piano lessons prepared, and often has even learned additional pieces. I can’t ever remember her complaining about  anything I have asked her to do, or ever saying that a piece is too hard!  Whatever I ask of her, she does well. Delaney is already in the highest level of the Alfred Premier Piano Course series, and she is  studying classical music.

Delaney’s  smiling face is like a ray of sunshine when she  enters the Academy! I look forward to seeing what she will accomplish as she  continues to grow as a musician.”
