Matilda Jr Auditions

This is an amazing opportunity for students to experience rehearsing and performing in a fully staged, licensed, and costumed 60 minute musical, all within two weeks! That’s over 70 hours of theater time!

Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence… and special powers! She’s unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Matilda’s school life isn’t completely smooth sailing, however – the school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don’t abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils’ saving grace!

Casting Ages 10 to 16  Performance Times and Location TBA very soon. Stay tuned!

Matilda Jr. Summer Mainstage Auditions

Welcome to our Matilda JR Audition Page. Matilda JR is our 2025 Summer Mainstage Production, and we are so excited to have you in our cast!

You will be asked to read from Audition Sides as well as sing one Audition Cut. Those are all listed below.

Audition Tips:

  • SLATE before you begin. A slate should include your first and last name, your age, plus the role you are auditioning for. Example: “Hello, my name is Kelly Smith. I am 12 years old and I am auditioning for the role of  ______________. ” (Note that it is totally fine to say you are happy with any role or would like to be in the ensemble!)
  • We recommend that you memorize the lyrics to the song cut, so you do not need to hold your sheet music while performing.
  • Familiarize yourself with the Audition Sides.
  • Be sure to bring some character to your audition and project your voice so we can hear you.
  • Be confident and have fun!

Please review the Matilda JR Script for character information and to find the sheet music for the audition song options below.

Please note that ALL “Adult” Characters (except Miss Honey/Ms. Trunchbull) will also play the older school kids. Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood will also play older school kids when possible.

What Are Audition Sides?

Sides are a small section of the script actors are given before an audition. Sides can range from a few sentences to several pages. You may even be given multiple sides at the audition from different parts of the script, so it is important to review them all. Your interpretation of the characters you are auditioning for will be of great interest to the audition panel, so dive into these characters and have fun bringing them to life.

Our Why

We are passionate about maintaining  a safe, creative community where all are welcome, seen, and valued. Every student, teacher, and director is charged to hold to their personal convictions while simultaneously demonstrating grace and compassion to ALL they encounter.

Our philosophy for our programs is not to create stars that will go to Broadway. While several CAM alum have gone on to work professionally in musical theatre, that is not our focus. We aim to use theatre as a vehicle to help students build life skills. So much can be learned in theatre class and productions including responsibility, punctuality, being coachable, and encouraging others. If our students end up on Broadway, we celebrate that! If they gain initiative, the ability to work independently as well as with a team, respect for authority, creative problem-solving, empathy, confidence, and time management.. well, then we’ve done our job. We look forward to creating an amazing production with You!
