I am so furtunate to be surrounded by exceptional music educators at Charlotte Academy of Music! After having taught in a private home studio setting in Spartanburg, SC, San Jose, CA and Charlotte for nearly 20 years, I thoroughly appreciate the opportunity to have colleagues with whom I can share teaching ideas, ask questions and just be inspired by! Music teachers who only teach in their home studios do not have the daily interaction with such colleagues that is so beneficial. (Not to mention we have fabulous faculty holiday parties!)
Today I had the opportunity to talk with Rita Mabes, Academy piano instructor. Rita attended the piano workshop featuring local composer Randall Hartsell at our local Music and Arts store earlier this week. She brough back materials that she has graciously loaned me to review. Having this opportunity is not only beneficial in my own teaching, but I will be able to pass this information along to other Academy teachers or their own use.
All good teachers know that we have much still to learn, and having fine instructors to interact with is so vital to our own development as music educators! I appreciate our dedicated faculty and am inspired by them on a daily basis.
