Welcome, Erin Ellenburg, Brass Instructor

Erin has over a decade of performing and teaching experience, and has Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music Performance degrees, both from Appalachian State University. She teaches lessons on all brass instruments in all styles, her specialties being classical solo and chamber music. Her students regularly place highly at All-District Honor Band auditions, and receive high scores at Solo & Ensemble competitions. She also is frequently asked by area band directors to come into schools and work directly with band students in sectionals.

In Charlotte, Erin has performed with the Charlotte Civic Orchestra, the Union Symphony Orchestra, the Queen City Brass Band, and the Charlotte Pride Band. She also performs regularly as a soloist and in chamber ensembles at churches, weddings, and other events. As the Associate Director of the Charlotte Pride Band, she works with the band’s several small ensembles, including directing the jazz ensemble, The Banktown Beat. She is a volunteer bugler for Bugles Across America, a not-for-profit organization that provides live buglers to play taps at funerals and memorial services to honor veterans.

Erin is a member of several professional organizations, including the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the North
Carolina Music Educators Association (NCMEA), the North Carolina Bandmasters Association (NCBA), the International Trumpet Guild (ITG), the International Women’s Brass Conference (IWBC), and the Historic Brass Society (HBS). She makes a point to attend workshops and conferences whenever possible, to continue learning and evolving as a musician and an educator.

Erin encourages students to explore the wide variety of music styles and opportunities available to brass players, and to perform in public whenever possible. She believes that giving students a chance to pursue their own interests while maintaining a framework of precise technical proficiency, a high level of musicality, and excellent practice habits allows them to develop into skilled, engaged, and well-rounded musicians who will have a life-long love of their instrument and of music in general.
